On spaciousness, our subconscious, and minimalism

💭 On the Art of Spaciousness

In Japanese culture, there's a beautiful concept called "yutori." It's about living with spaciousness—not just in our physical surroundings but in our minds and daily rhythms.

Yutori is:

  • Leaving early to arrive early, giving yourself time to look around

  • Savoring a moment without rushing to explain or analyze it

  • Allowing your mind to calmly leap from one thought to another

It's about creating breathing room in our lives. Whether it's taking a slow walk in nature, sitting with a poem, or simply arriving somewhere with time to spare.

It's not about doing nothing, but about giving ourselves space to absorb, reflect, and simply be.

How might you bring a little yutori into your day?

💭 On the Power of Belief

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't – you're right.

This simple statement by Henry Ford captures a fundamental truth about human potential. Our beliefs about ourselves and our abilities have a powerful impact on what we can achieve.

When we believe we can do something, we’re more likely to try, and we see setbacks as temporary. But when we believe we can't, then we might not even attempt the task, and that’s sad.

This quote reminds us that our mindset isn't just a reflection of reality – it actively shapes our reality. It challenges us to examine our self-imposed limitations and consider how our beliefs might be holding us back.

💭 On Living a Minimalish Life

I recently stumbled upon a website that got me thinking about minimalism in a new way. It introduced me to the concept of "Minimalish" living, and I thought you might find it interesting too.

"Minimalish" is a gentler, more flexible approach to minimalism. It's not about owning as little as possible or following strict rules. Instead, it's about:

  • Simplifying your life in ways that work for you

  • Reducing clutter (both physical and mental) to reduce stress

What I love about this concept is that it's not all-or-nothing. You can apply it in ways that make sense for your lifestyle and preferences.

As we reflect on these ideas, let's try to bring a little spaciousness into our lives and in our minds; let’s try to believe in ourselves; and let’s aim to fulfill our souls.

Until next time, keep exploring the infinite possibilities that surround us.
